Are you joining the craft for your own personal gain or because of mercenary motive(s)? Who will say YES if you are just joining?
Mercenary motives cannot be seen in a candidate during the first phase of his travel in Freemasonry. All candidates, I mean ALL will do anything to win our trust just to become one of us. THE GOAL IS “TO BELONG”, right?
Mercenary motive(s) can be seen once you already entrusted him the SACRED TRUST. Mercenary motives can be easily seen when he start to get the wages without working in the quarry. Mercenary motive(s) can be seen once he starts to be a good brother to the WELL OFF and less brother to others who are not aligned to his business dealings.
Mercenary motive(s) can be seen when the whisper to a good counsel is compromised because you might lose the privileges of “association” or scared of being alienated.
REMEMBER THAT AS FREEMASONS we are workers and workers are paid based on the time spent doing our labor. Labor could mean a physical work in our respective lodges or in the community or by simply polishing ourselves by transforming our own persons from rough to perfect ashlars. You are not entitled to receive the wages if you have not work in the quarry.
